Long Time No See

Sorry I haven't posted anything for awhile. I had to leave Los Angeles suddenly when my mother passed away. She had requested "Morning is Broken" to be sung at her funeral, a hymn that the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens sang when he was Cat Stevens (after he was Steven Demetre Georgiou, but before he was Yusuf Islam). Anyway, it got me listening to him again and I've been driving around rural Pennsylvania doing errands listening to this one. As a side note, I'm not intentionally creating a "Muslims with former aliases" blog in following the Louis Farrakhan post, but I will probably have to include a Slick Rick track soon to start a "musicians refused entry to the U.S." theme. Or maybe a track by Muslim Gauze should be next, either could be good for the ears...Thanks for those who've been still visiting the site in my prolonged absence. Stay tuned. I'll try to post more, but I have my hands sort of full at present. and feel free to send comments. Don't be Shy.

Farrakhan

Louis Farrakhan used to sing snappy little calypso ditties about transsexual pop icons. Observe:

Black Tambourine

Throw Aggi Off the Bridge was apparently written about the girlfriend of the singer in the Pastels, though I'm not sure if she even knew him...

Too Much Botheration

Two songs about botheration, and still we are plagued by it. At least its not murderation. Lee is on the left, Justin is on the right. These guys have the same barber/beard stylist? Too much dopplegangeration.

Celebration

I saw the singer of this band perform in Chicago around 2000 in a band called Jaks, and at some point she had a little dribble of "blood(?)" come from her mouth. Didn't react or step up the theatrics, just let it run a little. Don't know if it was real or what. Effectively disturbing.

Jaguar

"What does Jaguar mean?"
"Well... Jaguar is a keen young man with a nice hairdo, who smokes, who walks around. Everybody watches him. He sees lovely girls, smokes his cigarette nice and easy. That's what Jaguar means! A real character. A real gentleman, a 'zazouman!""

Songs on Compulsive Repeat

Ever heard of Grayslake, IL? This is what a tiny sliver of it sounded like in 2000. I heard this on the radio a few years ago and managed to remember enough lines of lyrics to track it down and probably listened to it a minimum of 12 times in a row when I finally found it. This rivals "Bullet" by the Misfits as one of the most catchy pop songs ever written.

Old Dirty Bastard

Here's Louis-Ferdinand Celine, author of "Journey to the End of the Night" singing a song on the accordian.

Welcome

Hello all,
Welcome to the first post of my mp3 blog.

This track is from an odd German record I found in Philadelphia. Its by Warsaw (later known as Joy Division) and the album art is the same as that on 'Unkown Pleasures' but with a completely different set of tracks. Don't know where else to find this one so enjoy...

Piracy not from the Carribean, but from Surinam via the UK: 'Fools Rush In,' appropriately enough for my first posting. Apparently Annabella lives in Glendale, about 10 minutes from me...
